Why's alex in Peru?

Well, I'm not too clear on that myself. See, it kinda goes like this:
A couple months ago, I got this idea in my head that I should learn spanish. Not just learn spanish, but _learn_spanish_. After establishing that, peru was pretty much the natural choice. Not just peru, of course. Cusco. The ancient Inca capital of the world. 14,000 feet above sea level, overlooking ancient ruins throughout the Andes, and awash with llamas--This place is paradise. Here it is

The plan is pretty much to stay in the city for January, stay in dirt-cheap hostels, enjoy the Peruvian culinary delights (mostly potatoes), and talk. A lot. To everyone. In spanish. And hopefully, after a month of doing this, I should have some vague inkling of the spanish language floating around inside my head, search for other inklings to grab and devour, thus increasing the size of the main inkling.

while I'm there, I also want to walk to Maccu Pichu, go to lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world), take lots of pictures, and just generally have a rocking time. I'm going to try to post journal entries and lots of pictures every couple of days on this site
